This is why professional service matters.

These Shimano XTR brakes are high-performance, but they’re not forgiving. XTR uses ceramic pistons for heat control, and if they’re reset unevenly, dry, or with side load, they can crack—especially on older systems.

On the lever side, the rubber bladder is another known weak point. During a bleed, pushing fluid from the caliper too quickly can over-pressurize the system and tear the bladder, leading to internal leaks or inconsistent lever feel.

None of this is abuse—just the reality of servicing top-tier components without the right technique, tools, or patience.

High-end brakes work incredibly well when treated correctly. This is why careful, experienced service isn’t optional, it’s part of keeping your bike safe and performing as designed.
